How To Wire a Car Stereo In a House

If you have a spare car stereo in your house, that you dont want to install in your car and you want to connect it in your house, you will require a power supply that can provide constant 12 volts because all car stereos require 12 volts to turn on. Most people use a old or spare computer power supply unit because it can produce 12 volts, you can use it too. Most computer psus are about 20-25 amps, a car head unit requires about 10 amps, so hooking it to the computer power supply should be fine.

Instructions:

1)Make sure the power is disconnected for the psu, you dont want it on, while you are making connection with the wires, for your own safety.

2)On most computer psus there are a bunch of different coloured wires, that do different things, the wires that you need to  move out of the way are wires that are blue orange red and green, as it makes it easier for you to strip down all the yellow wires.

3)Once you have done that, find all the yellow color wires and using a wire stripper, strip off 1 cm of insulation off the wires.

4)Then find all the black wires and using a wire stripper, strip off 1 cm of insulation off the wires.

5)Next twist all the yellow wires braids together, making all the yellow wires into one connection. Also do this for the black wires.

6)Locate the wiring harness on your car stereo and find wires that are coloured "Yellow", "Red" and "Black".

7)Once you have found them three wires, strip off 1cm of insulation from all of them, this is so the braid is exposed.

8)Then connect the yellow and red wires together and connect them to the yellow wires on the psu.

9)Then connect the black wired on the wiring harness to the black wire on the psu.

10)Using insulation tape, tape the exposed braids of the wires up, this is to prevent a short circuit to happen.

11)Turn on your computer psu, then press the power button on the car stereo and it will turn on.

Car Head Unit Has No Blue Remote Wire How To Connect Amplifier

 

If your car head unit has no remote wire, when you switch on your car head unit, the amplifier will not switch on because the remote wire cant send voltage to the amplifier to make it come on, but you can still get around it.

1)To power on a car amplifier without using a the remote wire connection found on the wiring harness on the radio, simply cut a small piece of 15 gauge wire and using a wire stripper strip of a 1 cm of insulation off both ends of the wire.

2)Once you have removed the insulation off both ends of the wire, unscrew the 12 volt terminal screw thats on the amp, you will require a screwdriver to open the screw.

3)Once you have unscrewed that screw, unscrew the remote wire terminal screw.

4)Then insert the electrical wire into the 12 volt terminal and using your screwdriver, screw tight the screw.

5)Then insert the remote wire into the remote wire terminal and then tighten the screw.

You have now bypassed the remote wire, now your car amplifier will power on without a remote wire connection on your car stereo. The only downfall of using this method to power your car amp is that it will be on all the time, it wont turn off. So when you are not using your car amp, disconnect the fuse, it will break the circuit and turn off the amp, if you dont, the next morning your car battery will be flat.

How To Wire a CB Radio In a Car

A CB radio is officially license free because mobile phones took over, but some people prefer to CB radio, than a mobile phone because you dont need credit to talk because you can talk on a CB radio nonstop, without a charge. Some people have a CB radio as there homebase setup, you can also install them into your car. If you have installed your CB radio into your car and have mounted it with a bracket, the last part will be to wire the antenna and power wires, to get it operating.

Instructions:

1)Remove the CB radio from its bracket, this is by remove the screws on each side of the bracket that hold it in place. 

2)Look for two colour wires, red and black, these wires are wires that obtain the ground and power to your rig. If the wire is not long enough to reach to the car battery, use same gauge wire and extended both wires; this is so they reach to the terminals on the battery. Make sure there is a fuse inline with the red wire, this is so the CB radio is protected against blowing out, from a short circuit.

3)Connect the red wire onto the positive terminal on the car battery and connect the black wire onto the negative terminal on the car battery. 

4)Once you have made the power connections, next you will need to connect your mag mount antenna to it. Before connecting the antenna, use a swr meter to see the reading, you want a reading that is at least below 1:5, the lower, the better, as more power output is delivered through the antenna and less output power is going back into your radio, keeping the output transistor cool.

5)Once you have a good swr reading, connect the antenna coax connector plug into the coax socket on the rear of the CB radio.

6)Place the CB radio back into the bracket, then replace the screws you removed, to secure the CB radio in place.

How To Clean a Car Subwoofer Without Damaging The Cone

If a car subwoofer is dusty, the dust can enter into the voice coil, make the sound quality suck, it can also make the sub look like crap, so give it a quick clean, it wont take you long. When cleaning a car subwoofer, you have to be extremely careful, as some parts are very delicate and could get damaged if you apply to much pressure.

Instructions:

1)If you car subwoofer has a protective grill placed in front of it, you will need to clean that first. On most subs the grill is made out of metal, if so, get a soft cloth and give it a wipe. Water will not be necessary as it can cause the metal to rust. If the protective grill is made out of a fabric, use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the dust.

2)Next you will need to clean the driver, so remove the protective grill, it should clip off or be held with screws, if so, then unscrew them using a screwdriver and place them in a safe place.

3)Once the grill is off, get a soft paint brush and remove the dust on the rubber surround, then set your vacuum cleaner on the lowest suction power setting and using the hoover nozzle, suck up any remaining dust.

4)Next you will need to clean the cone, if the cone is made out of paper, dont use water, when cleaning with a soft cloth. If you do, you will weaken the cone. If the car subwoofer cone you want to clean is made out of PVC, a plastic material, then apply some water to a soft cloth and clean the cone, softly, without applying hard pressure. Make sure you are gentle when cleaning a cone that is made from plastic, as it can crack.
